Thermoplay is a business within Barnes Molding Solutions strategic business unit. Thermoplay S.p.A. is an Italian company established in the 1970s and specialising since 1995 in the development and manufacture of hot runner systems for the injection moulding of plas- tics. The company has sales and service subsidiaries in many countries around the world and is committed to the research and development of solutions, often in collaboration with clients, for specific applications. Today, Thermoplay employs 179 people in its 11,000 square meters production facility. It operates in 48 countries around the world through its sales and service network. Thermoplay SpA and its subsidiaries were acquired in August 2015 by Barnes Group, Inc.
A reliable process in plastics injection molding
Thermoplay recently introduced a new range of hot runner systems “TF” and “TD” that offers significant process window improvements and optimized thermal profiling for molds with up to 144 cavities. The new series provides high process reliability, consistent part quality, even at high speed and volumes and significant energy saving, thanks to the proprietary heaters. The internal flow channels have been expanded, to optimize injection and decrease pressure loss- es leading to high part quality and reduced scrap rate.
The ‘TF’ series is equipped with new tip technology that ensures optimal thermal conduction and a special steel construction can be used for most materials, including technical resins. The heater and tip can now be replaced directly in the injection molding machine, simplifying the maintenance operations.
The ‘TD’ series includes an external bushing with double sealing on the surface that prevents leaking and provides better insulation. The bushing style requires lower precision on the mold design and manufacturing, reducing time and cost during the mold build process.
The manifold design has also improved to better suit multicavity mold applications, with the manifold now directly bolted on the mold plate for better safety against the risk of leakages and equipped with heaters on both sides of the manifold profile for consistent heating and balancing.
